The two-humbucker configuration is partnered with two push-pull volume pots to temper the output and flip the tone from overdriven, straight-up rock or metal to the warm character needed to voice blues and jazz, expanding the versatility of this axe. In 1975, Hisatake Shibuya opened his Electric Sound Products shop in Japan, where his reputation for churning out supreme-quality replacement parts grew so rapidly, that it wasn't long before he started hand-building his own guitars under the name ESP.
